OVERVIEW
In February 2019, Oxenfree had the opportunity to create a cinematic Brand Story for the Memorial United Methodist Church in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Over the weeks of Pre-Production, we embedded ourselves into the church to better understand its congregation, outreach, and values.
PROBLEM
Oxenfree worked with MUMC to bring their "Find Your Place Here" campaign to life. We focus on the church, its congregation, and the various ministries outside the church grounds. Each ministry is an extension of Fernandina and their community as they reach out and welcome all people.
SOLUTION
We open on sunrise in Fernandina Beach, showing the wider context of Memorial. First, it is of the island, then showing downtown waking up, then a wide of the church as cars pass by. We show the sign for Memorial UMC. Then we show a montage of welcoming visitor experience in the sanctuary. We transition to the extension of Memorial UMC beyond the walls of the church.
We meet more of the congregation through community outreach. We see these characters showing up on a Sunday morning, being welcomed with open arms.
Then we see everyone we’ve met throughout the video coming together for a Wednesday Night Dinner, each bringing something to the table (literally and figuratively). We see they commune together, welcomed & accepted. The video ends with many hands passing food to one another as they share a meal as one united family.
RESULT
The result was a Brand Story that struck the heart and core of MUMC's messaging, a single video perfectly capturing their community spirit. The video premiered at MUMC's Easter Sunday Service in 2019 and was a hit. The church continues to use it during services, events, and various outreach efforts.
